Matthew Kidd

Coproduction Lead, Greater Manchester Housing First

About this speaker

Matthew Kidd has been coproducing services with people facing multiple exclusions since 2010 when he led a group of people with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System as they worked alongside Greater Manchester Probation Trust to coproduce a peer mentoring service. Matthew was employed by the Probation Trust for the next three years to develop the service until it was ready to sustain itself as a peer-led social enterprise.

In the summer of 2017 Matthew formed a new organisation, Creative Inclusion, who find creative ways to involve people who have faced multiple exclusions in strategic decisions. Matthew was asked to lead a group of coproduction panel of people with lived experience of homelessness to work alongside Greater Manchester Combined Authority in the co-design the specification of Housing First in Greater Manchester. The insight of people with lived experience throughout the commissioning process and in the co-design of the outcomes framework proved to be invaluable and as a result GMCA sought to extend the coproduction panel's involvement throughout the lifetime of the programme. The panel has gone on to co-design processes for staff recruitment and training, the quality assurance framework and the peer programme. They have also created their own Legislative Theatre production 'You Know Where the Door is' and are working alongside local Authorities in Greater Manchester to develop learning partnerships between policy-makers, practitioners and people with lived experience of homelessness.
